In the Spotlight

Introducing Maureen Chapman, March tapper in the spotlight

Maureen joined the Young @ Heart Tappers in January 2020, making her the newest member of our performing company. Although she may not know as many of our routines, she has worked hard to learn as many as possible and is always eager for the opportunity to perform. She has already performed with us 4 times and is working hard on her fifth show, ALDA’s “Dancin’ Down Route 66” scheduled for this June. Her enthusiasm and hard work has quickly made her an active member of our group and I am happy to name her this month’s Tapper in the Spotlight! To learn more about Maureen, please read her bio below.

“I might have been around 10 when I remember my dad and me rolling back the front room rug and tap dancing on the hardwood floor. We didn’t know many steps, but boy we sure had fun!” I was born in San Gabriel, CA and when I was 7, I was hit by a car while running for the school bus. We moved to Covina, CA and after graduating from Northview High School, I went to cosmetology school. My first apartment was in Glendora where I met my husband, Gary, and we moved to Newport Beach where we lived for 5 years. We raised our 1 son and 2 daughters in San Dimas. I went back to school to pursue nursing and was a nurse at Kaiser Hospital for 5 years. Then I was the nurse at the University of La Verne Student Health Center for 25 years. I have been living in Upland for the past 20 years.

My hobbies are gardening, sewing, reading, mountain bike riding, and now tap dancing. My sister told me about a friend of hers in Georgia that took a senior tap class. OMG! That is when I started looking and found the Young @ Heart Tappers. I love it. I love the dance routines, fun costumes, bright lights, and performances. I love the sound we all make when tapping together, and most of all, love making new friends.

Even though my Dad isn’t here anymore, I know he is here in spirit, and we are still tap dancing in the front room.
